Grade 9 Science allows students to develop their understanding of basic concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics and relates these areas of study to technology, society, and the environment. Throughout this course, students will learn the essential processes of scientific investigation, which form the basis for all future paths of study across the sciences. Course description: This course enables students to consolidate, and continue to develop, an understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, mathematical modelling, and coding to make sense of the mathematics they are learning and to apply their understanding to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations. Students will continue to enhance their mathematical reasoning skills, including proportional reasoning, spatial reasoning, and algebraic reasoning, as they solve problems and communicate their thinking.

Course description:
Grade 9 Canadian Geography examines interrelationships within and between Canada’s natural and human systems, looking particularly at how these systems interconnect with those in other parts of the world. Throughout the course, students will explore environmental, economic, and social geographic issues relating to topics such as transportation, sustainable energy choices, and urban development. In doing so, students will learn to use geographical concepts and spatial technologies to investigate various geographic issues with the overarching focus of making Canada a more sustainable place to live.
